Why
a
wired
telephone
entry
system
tying
up
into
residents's
phones
lines
as
opposed
to
an
auto-dialer
type
of
telephone
entry
system
that
uses
a
dedicated
phone
line
to
reach
residents's
phones?
For
large
building
with
over
100
units,
Auto-Dialer
systems
may
be
a
better
fit
than
a
wired
telephone
entry
system
because
of
the
large
number
of
phone
lines
that
need
to
be
intercepted.
That
advantage
may
compensate
for
many
other
features
that
clearly
put
them
at
a
disadvantage
in
smaller
apartment
buildings.
Line
rental
fees
incurred
by
the
condominium
with
the
use
of
an
Auto-Dialer
telephone
entry
system
is
one
of
them.
These
systems
effectively
require
a
dedicated
line
from
the
local
phone
company
for
their
normal
operation:
when
a
guest
calls
a
resident's
unit,
the
system
actually
makes
a
phone
call
to
the
resident's
line.
In
most
areas,
telephone
companies
treat
these
lines
as
business
lines
making
the
line
phone
bill
disastrously
more
than
residents's
are
willing
to
pay
for.
Auto-Dialer
telephone
entry
systems
also
require
residents
to
order
from
the
local
phone
company
call
waiting
service
for
their
lines.
This
is
so
they
can
be
reached
by
a
calling
guest
at
the
lobby
while
they
are
on
a
phone
call.
This
is
doomed
to
unhappily
increase
their
phone
bills
if
they
did
not
desire
such
a
service.
At
the
same
time,
the
call
waiting
service
can
become
an
impediment
for
internet
use
of
the
line:
the
call
waiting
tone
will
disconnect
their
computer
modem
from
the
internet
while
they
are
online.
If
they
momentarily
disable
the
service
before
they
go
online,
then
they
will
miss
all
possible
guests's
calls!
In
addition,
Auto-Dialer
telephone
entry
systems
are
vulnerable
to
long
distance
call
abuse
as
anyone
gaining
access
to
the
line
jack
can
easily
make
undesired
and
unauthorized
call
that
are
difficult
to
track
in
a
condo
environment.
Another
major
disadvantage
of
Auto-Dialer
telephone
entry
systems
is
that
they
are
subject
to
the
numbering
system
of
local
telephone
companies.
Many
such
entry
systems
have
become
unusable
today
as
a
result
of
the
increase
in
telephone
numbers
which
in
many
areas
passed
from
7
digits
to
10
digit
(phone
numbers
have
passed
to
include
the
area
code).
There
is
only
so
much
memory
space
that
can
be
cost-effectively
accomodated
in
a
system
for
residents's
phone
numbers.
Even
increasing
this
capacity
to
some
more
digits
per
apartment
unit
still
leave
these
telephone
entry
systems
at
the
mercy
of
future
changes
in
the
public
telephone
numbering
system.
This
obviously
all
means
loss
of
their
investments
by
building
owners.
Wired
telephone
entry
systems
are
immune
to
most
of
these
problems.
The
OmniCom
Telephone
Entry
System
is
immune
to
all
of
them.
For
relatively
small
condominiums
with
less
than
100
units,
the
choice
is
clear.
